Drivers License requirements Texas law requires new residents to obtain a valid Texas drivers license and auto tags within 30 days of establishing residency. When you apply for drivers license, take either a valid out-of-state or a certified copy of your birth certificate and your new Texas license plates. To qualify for a Texas driver's license, you must be 18 years of age or older or at least 16 years of age and have completed a certified driver's education program. Proof of liability insurance is needed to apply for license.
Auto Inspection Auto inspection is required every 12 months. Stickers are color coded to show month and year of inspection and must be displayed in lower left hand corner of auto windshield. Inspections are available at approved auto dealerships, service stations, garages and auto service centers. Liability insurance is required. Proof of insurance must be carried in your automobile at all times.
