Save our Stores or Save our Community?

I personally believe that both groups have the fine city of Mesquite at heart. The sad truth is we shouldn't even be having this confrontation of view at all. This is not a right or wrong issue nor is it a religious issue.

Lets weight out the pros, cons and the facts...

  • Just how much will the sale of beer and wine actually raise in taxes for the City of Mesquite vs. the sales tax revenue if space vacated by Mervyns was occupied? Or filing the space vacated by CompUSA?
  • Is the need for new tax revenue so desperate that adding beer and wine sales needed or is this a quick fix with unwanted long term consequences?
  • Will the crime rate increase if beer and wine is sold in Mesquite?
  • Will the streets be safer if drivers have the opportunity to stop for a cold one on the way home?

I truly believe that both groups need to meet and see if they can answer the above questions honestly, and see if there is some common ground.
