9/6/06-9/10/06 - The National Latino Congreso will be held in Los Angeles, California. At that time Convening National Organizations and Elected Officials will be holding the largest, comprehensive, and most important gathering of Latino and community leaders in history since 1977 and the civil rights movement of the 1960s.

The best and brightest will unite at the NLC to shape the dialogue and debate on how Latino leadership can embrace principles, tactics, and strategies that will result in a far more effective use of electoral power. To draft a visionary plan of action for the next 15-20 years to achieve social, political and economic changes and benefits for our communities.

The establishment of a long-term Latino agenda and action plan will educate and train a wide range of Latino community leaders, elected officials and activists on critical issues, and mobilize Latino community leaders, with a special emphasis on establishing opportunities for new and young leaders

The Congreso will be held at the Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown 711 South Hope St. Los Angeles, CA 90017 and it is expected to draw at least 2000 delegates during the five-day event.

Latino leaders at the NLC, along with a wide representation of the American people, will develop a new agenda for the next generation. Discussions will be held on the most pressing issues of the day with an eye toward the future.

The event will follow a truly democratic process, with representatives from organizations and elected officials proposing legislative, policy, and electoral ideas for consideration by the full body of participants. Many plenary sessions, workshops, and special presentations will guide the discussion and provide top-notch materials, information, and case studies to assist in the development of the agenda. Ultimately decisions made at the conference will chart a pro-active and forward thinking course for candidates, legislators, policy advocates, and voter mobilization organizers at all levels.
