8/17/06 - State of Texas is using deceptive ads regarding the lottery and per challenges by NBC 5 it cannot account for the actual use of funds!!!!!!!!!!

Per channel NBC 5 news the State nor the State Lottery Commission cannot account for the actual use of funds derived from the sales of lottery tickets. They also uncovered that only 28 cents of each dollar is allocated to education and instead of adding to the education fund, these revenues are subtracted from the actual state budget amount allocated for education instead of adding the the existing education budget. What does that mean? In a nutshell, if the state has $3 billion allocated for the education in the yearly budget and the lottery raises $1 billion dollars for education, then the $1 billion dollars is subtracted from the $3 billion dollars budget and then allocates the windfall of $1 billion dollars to other funds leaving the education budget at $3 billion dollars. What in God's name is wrong with this picture? Also according to the channel NBC 5 news, the Lottery Commission could not give any accountability for the funds raised!

Is this the picture we were all told when the state wanted to approve a lottery for Texas? It's time to bring this good ole boy government style to an end in November and in the mean time contact your State Representatives.
