Why Has It Been Down Hill for the Mesquite Chamber Over the Last 7 Years? - It has been obvious over the last several years that there is something very, very wrong at the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce. Approximately 7 years ago the Chamber had approximately 1000+ members and based on their current web site, the Chamber now has in the 600's and that figure is quite questionable! Why is this??? There are many feelings among businesses that were previous members or have never joined the Chamber that the Chamber does little to nothing to help small or any business, and only caters to a few elite long-time members - thus why join. It has become a funding source for a Social Group. As a previous member, I believe that the membership would be even lower than the 600's if the existing members didn't feel pressured because they are in a service industry and need to have a plaque hanging on the wall. Just go to some of the hotels or other businesses listed on their web site and drop-in to their businesses and ask them what the Chamber does for them. Color me stupid but I thought the Chamber's goal was to promote Mesquite and businesses of Mesquite.
What about questionable spending over the last several years including spending money for services and publications out of the state of Texas and outside the City of Mesquite? Maybe there isn't any qualified services or businesses in Mesquite. So Wrong! What about spending several thousands of dollar$$$ for internal internet servers that could easily handle a medium to large corporation when they only needed regular domain email service included with any internet service provider - plus the ongoing costs of maintaining these servers. Doesn't this just make you wonder what else the Chamber management has spent money on like trips, lunches, equipment etc.? It's time for accountability at the Chamber!

It's time to CLEAN HOUSE at the Chamber and the Board and get it back on track - The Citizens and the Businesses of Mesquite deserve better! Talk to your Mayor, City Council and other City Officials.
